No matter what eyeliner you're dealing with, we've all heard (and experienced) a smudge or two when applying it. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can try to avoid the notoriously unavoidable racoon eyes. First, be sure to cleanse the skin before starting your makeup routine. If you have oily skin, you can also dab an oil blotting sheet on your face to remove excess oils. Next, use an eye primer for your lids. This will help keep your eyeliner and eyeshadow from fading (or smearing all over the place). As for your eyeliner – opt for a long-wearing or a waterproof formula. Lastly, if you want your eyeliner to last even longer, you can use setting powder or setting spray to seal your look in place.

It's the age-old question, but we're here to deliver the goods. The eye area is a sensitive spot, so it pays to gently remove makeup without scrubbing or using the wrong products. A good option is to double cleanse, which refers to cleansing the face twice – first with an oil-based cleanser, and then with a water-based one. The oil cleanser helps to break down makeup and debris, while the waterproof cleanser will take care of the rest. If double cleansing isn't a suitable option for your skin type, you can use a makeup remover that is specially formulated to remove waterproof makeup. If you find that the above solutions don't do the trick, you can always repeat the steps until all your makeup has left the building – or in this case, your face. Easy! To make your waterproof eye pencil last the distance, use a setting powder, or spritz your eye makeup with a setting spray to lock your makeup in place. You can also apply some powder eyeshadow to your eyeliner using an eyeliner brush. This works significantly well if the eyeshadow is the same colour as your chosen eyeliner.
