If you share our love of fluttery, voluminous lashes, you know it’s all fun and games until it’s time to remove your mascara. Taking off your makeup, avoiding damaging your lashes and the inevitable raccoon eye aftermath can be a challenge. The tugging involved is the stuff of nightmares. And don’t even get us started on removing waterproof mascara! Designed to withstand sweat, humidity and rainy days means they’re also they're beyond difficult to remove completely.

Tricky as it may be, we’re here to help! These are our top tips and tricks to add to your eye makeup-removing arsenal so you don’t lose any precious lashes in the process.

How To Remove Regular Mascara

A splash of warm water almost never does the trick (unless you’re using Snapscara Mascara, that is) and repetitive, rough rubbing is never a good idea, whether it’s your fingers or a cotton pad. So the first step is to make sure you have a remover that works! This could come in the form of micellar water or a dedicated Eye Makeup Remover.

How To Remove Waterproof Mascara

Removing waterproof makeup often requires something a little more intense. As much as we love waterproof mascara, there’s no denying it’s sometimes too good at its job! In this case, you may want to up the ante. Used just like an eye makeup remover, oils or oil-based products are more effective at stripping back long-wear formulas. As an added bonus, they add moisture back into your lashes as well.

Our recommendation? Supercharge your remover with baby oil or coconut oil.  In order to gently remove mascara in a way that won’t shed lashes or irritate your eyes, soak a cotton round in the remover of your choice and follow these steps.

Step 1: Hold the cotton pad against your closed eyes for 20-30 seconds. This step is important and patience is key – waiting will help loosen the formula so it wipes off your lashes easier!
Step 2: Gently slide the cotton pad down over your lashes – most of the mascara should slide off with it.
Step 3: Fold the cotton pad in half and slide it on the underside of your lashes to remove any remaining mascara.
Step 4: Sweep the cotton pad round the edges of your eyes to remove any lingering residue and avoid raccoon eyes!

Proper mascara removal helps keep your lashes healthy but why stop there? Treat your eyelashes to aftercare options like a lash serum or a mask. Infused with a pro- keratin complex to nourish dry, brittle lashes, The Falsies Lash Mask is perfect for some lash-strengthening TLC!
