5-Minute Desk-to-Dinner Makeup Routine: Jade Kisnorbo's Top Time-Saving Look

Picture this: you’ve just sat through an hour-long meeting that could have been an email, you’ve stayed at the office way past knock-off time – and, if you’re not ready to leave soon, you’ll be shamefully sneaking in late for your dinner date.

You’ve got exactly five minutes to pull your makeup look together, but don’t worry – we’ve got your back.

Of course, there are techniques that we mastered back then that we still employ today – we just approach them with a much lighter hand. And if we’re comparing 2016 vs 2026, one of our biggest learnings is the art of restraint. Now, we stick to a single point of focus, rather than pair a statement lip with a statement eye with a statement brow with… you get the idea!

With the help of Maybelline’s National Makeup Expert, Jade Kisnorbo, we’ve curated a quick makeup routine that will take you seamlessly from desk to dinner, using just a handful of Maybelline products. Master your five-minute makeup routine below!

What is day-to-night makeup?

Day-to-night makeup is the quick transition from minimal work makeup to a bolder, evening-worthy look with the aim to take you from your “desk to dinner”.

Think of it not as a redo of your existing makeup, but rather a simple, light touch-up of what you’re already working with – plus a few eye-catching flourishes.

“To transition from day-to-night makeup, I’m ultimately reaching for any product that can be applied quickly and with little effort,” Jade explains. “Some of my go-to nighttime touches are a blurred red lip, a warmer shade of blush, or a smudge of richer, deeper liner colour around the eyes.”

Which makeup products last from desk to dinner?

Your desk-to-dinner five-minute makeup routine is designed to enhance your existing look, but you still have to start with a solid base – and that means using products in your morning makeup routine that promise longevity.

From hero prep products to mascaras that stand the test of time, below are seven products that will take you from morning to night.

Prep: Grippy Serum Primer

Enjoy up to 24 hours of wear with the ultra-hydrating and plumping Grippy Serum Primer. Skin-loving ingredients hyaluronic acid and niacinamide help keep your skin looking dewy and bright all day long.

Base: Superstay Lumi Matte Foundation

Lightweight and breathable with a natural, soft matte finish, Superstay Lumi Matte Luminous Matte Foundation promises long wear (up to 30 hours) without compromising on skin comfort and natural radiance.

Concealer: Instant Age Rewind® Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

It’s been a cult-favourite from 2016 to 2026 for a reason; the Instant Age Rewind® Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer offers crease-resistant coverage for up to 12 hours without masking your inherent glow.

Cheeks: Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse

Cream products like Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse are your best friend when it comes to topping up existing makeup on the go. This blurred matte cream blush stays put for up to 14 hours and lets you build up intensity when it’s time for that dinner date.

Brows: Brow Inserts Brow multiplying Tool

Set yourself up for a full day of perfect brows with the Brow Inserts Brow Multiplying Tool. This unique 2-in-1 tool has a triple-tip micro-needle pen to create 100 brow-like hairs in just 30 seconds. Using the micro-needle end, fill in any sparse or over-plucked areas, then switch to the spoolie end to coat and set your brows with the hair-like fibre gel. The result? Fuller, natural-looking brows that will take you from any day-to-night makeup look.

Eyes: Lash Sensational® Sky Tubes Tubing Mascara

We’re not touching the lashes for our office-to-evening look, so you’ll need a volumising and lengthening mascara that won’t budge – and the Lash Sensational Sky Tubes Tubing Mascara is up to the task. Smudge-proof, sweat-proof, and cold waterproof, this formula delivers up to 24H wear – so it's a must-have for day-to-night makeup. Best of all, it's designed for one swipe warm water removal to streamline your dinner-to-bed routine.

Set: Facestudio® Lasting Fix Makeup Spray

Sure, we’re going to be doing a quick touch-up of our makeup before we clock out for the day, but we still need our base products to stay put until we get there. The Facestudio® Lasting Fix Makeup Spray will help set your makeup look for up to 16 hours.

Your 5-minute, 5-step office-to-evening makeup routine

Now that you have a solid base for your foundation, concealer, brows, and eyes, it’s time to transform your morning look into something night-time ready.

Whether you’re getting ready at your desk or in the poorly lit office bathroom, read on to learn how to do your makeup in five minutes with just a handful of touch-up techniques.

Minute 1: Blot away excess oil and refresh your base with setting spray

If you’re suffering from a shiny T-zone by day’s end, you’re not alone. So, the first order of business for your day-to-night makeup is to carefully blot the excess oil that has built up on your skin.

To blot your makeup, you can either use a dedicated blotting paper or separate a sheet of toilet paper until it’s single-ply (hey, we’re nothing if not resourceful!). Gently pat or press the paper onto your T-zone – just don’t rub or swipe your makeup.

Once you’ve removed that surface layer of oil, take your setting spray and spritz it all over your skin. This will essentially liquify your makeup again, allowing you to apply products over the top without leaving you with a powdery, cakey finish.

Let your setting spray dry down for 10 seconds or so – but remember, we’re on the clock!

Minute 2: Do a quick touch up with concealer

The goal of a five-minute desk-to-dinner routine is to build on what you already have – which is why it’s so important to craft a solid base in the morning with your Superstay Lumi Matte Liquid Foundation and Instant Age Rewind® Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer.

Once your setting spray has slightly dried down, you can apply your concealer to any areas that need freshening up. That said, Jade kindly reminds us that this is a touch-up – and not a whole second layer. “We’re only touching up areas where our coverage may have faded or concealer has creased throughout the day – so always go in with a light touch using the tip of your finger to blend.”

Minute 3: Deepen your blush and amplify the eyes

We tend to keep it fairly tame blush-wise in the office, but as we transition from desk to dinner, it’s time to amp up that warmth.

Cream or liquid products are perfect for day-to-night makeup because they layer beautifully and they can be applied with your fingers. Simply take your Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse and swipe it over your cheek, blending outwards.

In the interest of time, we’ll keep it simple for eye makeup. Your brows are locked in place and there’s no need to remove your waterproof mascara for this look – all you’ll need is a pop of shimmer to draw attention to the eyes.

Using the tapered drip tip applicator, apply the Shadow Drip Eye Tint Liquid Eye Shadow to your entire eyelid and blend with your finger while the formula is still wet for a diffused luminescent finish.

Minute 4: Add colour to your lips

Lipstick has a way of instantly elevating a makeup look, so this is where we really tie together all the elements of your desk-to-dinner quick makeup routine.

If you want true cohesion, take the same shade of Cloudtopia Cheek & Lip Mousse and press the product into your lips with the tip of your finger. Or go bolder with a deeper shade of Superstay Teddy Tint, which gives you a transfer-free, soft matte finish that will stay put all through happy hour and beyond.

Minute 5: Finish with another mist of setting spray

We made it – and hopefully with time to spare! Now all you need to complete your five-minute makeup routine is a final spritz of setting spray.

Take your trusty Facestudio® Lasting Fix Makeup Spray and spray in an ‘X’ motion over your face to lock in your newly layered products and keep your makeup in place until that nighttime cleanse.

Minimal-step makeup routine FAQs

How do you make makeup last all day?

The key to long-lasting makeup is prep. You’ll need to apply your morning skincare as normal – including SPF – then apply a primer that’s right for your needs. This will give your makeup something to grip onto and help it last from day to night.

If you’re looking for a hydrating, blurring primer, we recommend the Poreless Jelly 24H Hydrating Blur Primer. For shine control and a lightly mattifying effect, opt for the Shine Stopper Serum Primer instead. Be sure to finish off with a setting spray to lock it all in place.

What makeup is best for busy mornings?

The best makeup for an easy daily makeup routine is low effort and versatile – think products that streamline multiple makeup steps.

Our Instant Perfector 4-in-1 Glow Foundation is the perfect example of a multi-purpose product for busy mornings: it acts as a primer, concealer, highlighter and BB cream. Add in tinted brow gel and a blush that doubles as a lip colour and you’ll basically come out net positive (especially after hitting the snooze button one too many times!).

How do you transition makeup from day to night?

It’s best to start with an easy natural makeup look in the morning that you can build on with more colour and intensity in the evening.

In the morning, make sure you apply long-wearing mascara and brow makeup so you don’t have to worry about touch-ups during your five-minute makeup routine. Bolder lips, cheeks, and eyes are the perfect way to elevate your day makeup to something date-night-worthy – so don’t be afraid to embrace a bold, kissable lipstick look or a shimmery shadow to accentuate the eyes.

How do you refresh your makeup after work?

While you’ll do the bulk of your makeup at home, your after-work makeup is all about quick touch-ups and refreshes. As a general rule, avoid layering with heavy formulas or powders.

A setting spray and concealer will help refresh your base, while you can use cream or liquid blushes and eyeshadows to intensify colour on the cheeks and lips. Finish with a swipe of lipstick, a fresh coat of setting spray, and you’re good to go!
