MATTE LIPSTICK FAQS

A matte lipstick is a type of lipstick that is formulated to have a non-shiny finish, achieved by using a higher proportion of pigment and oil, and less wax than traditional lipsticks. Matte lipsticks are often described as long-wearing or smudge-proof because of its special formula that effectively penetrates the lips. 1. Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub before applying your matte lip colour to remove any dead skin cells that could cause the lipstick to cake.
2. Make sure your lips are well hydrated before applying matte lip colour by using a lip balm or primer to help create a smooth base.
3. Apply the matte lip colour in thin layers and build up the colour gradually to prevent caking and to create a more even finish.
4. Once you have applied the matte lip colour, blot your lips with a tissue to remove any excess product.
5. Finally, set your matte lip colour with a translucent powder to help it stay in place for longer.
Use an oil-based makeup remover that helps to break down the matte lipstick and make it easier to remove. Apply the makeup remover to a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your lips. Lastly, rinse off any excess makeup remover on your lips with warm water, then follow up with a lip balm to rehydrate your lips. A lip liner is not necessary when using a matte lipstick, but it can help to create a more defined look. If you choose to complete your matte lip colour with a lip liner, make sure to match the colour of your matte lipstick as closely as possible for a seamless finish. It depends on your desired lip look - you can choose to use a lip gloss after applying a matte lipstick to counter the drying effect, however your matte lip look may be compromised as matte lipsticks are designed to give your lips a velvety, non-shiny finish. If a lip gloss is added on top, it will change the appearance of the matte lipstick to become more shiny.
