Define-A-Lash® Lengthening Washable Mascara

This is the best mascara I’ve ever used. Since they discontinued brownish black I’ve tried every drug store option out there in a similar color & nothing can hold a candle to this puppy. Doesn’t smudge, creates beautiful separated long voluminous lashes & washes off like a dream. Other mascaras I’ve tried either don’t build the same length definition & volume, or they crumble when dry, or run, or are a nightmare to wash off. Maybelline you still have other lines in brownish black please bring back this one!

I used to use this mascara when i was a lot younger when i first started buying my own makeup and i always liked the way the brush made my lashes look, the brush was really easy to use and apply over my lashes making them all separated but full at the same time and its possibly to build up layers and not have a lot clump together , i haven't seen this around any stores in my area of where i live since 2008 so i had to switch and get other mascaras but this a old school classic for me

I've been searching for a mascara that lengthens and separates with the drug store brands. I really love Lancôme Definicils but I don't want to pay $30.00 anymore. I have found a few less expensive brands that come really close and will work out. This is one of them. I like the silicone brush. This does lengthen and separates my lashes. I also really like L'Oréal Telescopic Mascara, it's similar but it has a smaller silicone brush, however it's hard to put the wand back in the tube.

This used to be my Favorite mascara & I have been a loyal customer for many years. It has recently gone through a horrible formula change & is not packaged as Washable Waterproof. It no longer goes on smoothly & constantly clumps & flakes off my lashes. I have now switched brands to another reliable Washable Waterproof and even tossed all my extra Define-A-Lash mascara that were unopened. Why on earth would the formula be changed on a previously amazing product??

FOR SOME SILLY REASON I WENT TO TRY THAT ROCKET STUFF...THIS MASCARA I HAVE BEEN USING FOR YEARS. AMAZING STUFF! I JUST THOUGHT TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND BIG MISTAKE. THIS MASCARA IS AMAZING!!! MAKES YOUR LASHES LOOK LONG! AND DOES NOT CAKE ON...I ALWAYS WIPE THE BRUSH OFF WITH A TISSUE FIRST SO THERE IS NOT SOO MUCH ON BRUSH. THE MASCARA IS WONDERFUL AND COMES OFF EASY WITH WHATEVER CLEANSER YOU USE ON YOUR FACE. IT IS A MUST HAVE!

I have loved and used this mascara exclusively for 5-6 years. It was amazing. Recently, something is off or different. It smells awful and the smell gets stronger over time. It’s clumpy, thick and sticky and it’s irritating my eyes. It’s never been like that before. I keep repurchasing it after a few uses because I can’t stand it and thought maybe it was a one off thing. I’m on tube 4 with the same results and I’m so disappointed.

I have been a fan of Maybelline mascara since I started makeup as a teenager. The formula is great and I love how the wand is precise. Unfortunately, for me I'm part Asian and I have course eyelashes and they only stick straight out no matter any mascara, curling tool or curl product I've bought. So I can't give insight on the power of curling but I got good length when using this product. No clumping and lasted throughout the day.

Love this mascara. The applicator is perfect for grabbing the lashes...even the baby ones...and pulling them out to the full length of the lashes. When lashes are curled, it is so fantastic to see the effect of this product on the curled lashes. When the lashes are natural this product gives them just enough boost to be beautiful, but not overwhelming for a natural look. The formula coats nicely and does not clump.

Posting in hopes Maybelline will reformulate. This has been my go-to for years as it defined my fine eyelashes without clumping. It seems like there has been a recent formula change because it does now clump on my lashes and sticks on them long after I thoroughly wash my face. I image that Maybelline reformulated to use healthier ingredients, but sadly the performance of the product has suffered.

Its a great mascara! Its very lengthening and makes your lashes look thick and full without making them clumpy. It applies so smoothly and comes off easily at the end of the day. It doesnt smudge or transfer around the eyes which is great. I love this mascara when i need a not so dramatic look. Its very natural looking. Its a great product for the price and I would definitely recommend it!

I have been using Define-A-Lash Washable Very Black for many many years. I change to a new tube every two weeks because of eye sensitivity. I absolutely loved it. BUT over the last several months this mascara does not go on as smoothly as it once did. It clumps more and it is also flaking. I never had this issue before. Did you change the formula? I am very sad and discouraged.

This used to be amazing, my holy grail mascara. I have used this mascara and been trying to find similar mascaras to this one since 2005 and this was the one I always came back to. Recently, the formula has changed and it is not producing the same results it has been for years. My eyes have also been irritated lately and I am just now noticing that it is when I wear this mascara.

I have used this for years. The brush and consistency was perfect to make my lashes so long! But what happened to the brownish black? I can't find it anywhere, the black is too harsh for my skin tone. I've tried other Maybelline mascara products , but they are all too thick or have a brush that won't lift/separate. I hate it when a company changes a long time product!!

I absolutely love this mascara because it really defines the lashes and makes them look really long I have used this for a while and I love it so much it is so easy to apply with the bristles through the lashes and I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants really long and defined lashes and I would of course buy this mascara again it is amazing.

I loved this mascara in it they changed the formula. Now it has a VERY strong perfume smell and I can’t wear it without getting a headache. I’m so bummed. I tried the mascara from 4 different vendors thinking it was expired or a bad batch - all of them had the strong smell. My husband lost his smell from Covid and could pick up the smell when we kissed!

I bought this on a whim, as someone who always goes for lengthening mascaras over volume. I was not expecting it to be this good. I get compliments every few days about how pretty my eyes look. It can also curl your lashes, especially if you use a primer beforehand. It can also make a nice cat or fox eye look. I will keep rebuying, my favorite!

Maybelline please NEVER STOP making this product! I’ve been using it since 2008 and I would be devastated without it! It dries really firm, lets you sculpt your lashes into strands or groups, and holds your lashes’ shape after you curl them. It washes off easily but doesn’t flake or leave a residue if you touch your lashes. Pure magic.

I like to everything and anything when it comes to mascara, and while this one did define my lashes I wish it had provided more volume. I tend to have one eye that by the end of the day the mascara is all worn off of and the mascara was mostly on after the day so I consider this a win in my books! Applicator Is good too, not too bulky.

My favorite mascara of old time. Getting harder and harder to find. I hope it's not getting discontinued? I don't know if it's that the product is just a tiny bit thinner or would that the brush is very sturdy, but this really does lengthen without clumping. Only mascara I've ever found that really does that. Love love love

I heard great things about this so I was excited to buy it!! When I opened it....I'll just let the picture do the talking.. It looks awful... I'm not going to even attempt to use this. There are some chunks on the wand that don't even have bristles. You can't apply mascara with a wand like this. It's so cheaply made.

The maybelline define a lash is a great mascara but it didn’t give me the length I was hoping for. It is easy to wash off when taking all make up off. It is presented in a very nice package. I would buy it again because even though it didn’t give me the length I wanted it is a smooth mascara with a great applicator.

I love this mascara. I've never had any wand issues so I think I will keep my old wand just in case. I cannot find this product in brownish black in the stores though. Luckily I just found a 6 pack on EBay but that was the only one they had. I hope it truly is the same stuff, very black is just too harsh for me.

Great mascara for the amount you pay. I’ve used it twice when I’m feeling too cheap to buy expensive mascara and have always enjoyed it. However, since using it last, I have found other cheap mascaras that I like better. I don’t know if I would buy the mascara again. Maybelline Great Lash® BIG® Washable Mascara

Absolutely love this mascara, it doesn’t clump or come out on the wand in a mass amount. I have long lashes already and it goes on perfectly without making it look like I could blink a few times and fly away. I’m having a really hard time finding it in Canada lately. Did you discontinue this product to Canada??

This became my official mascara go-to after I tried it the first time due to the smooth application and no clumps! It’s a good value for the price and considering the fact I have dark, chocolate brown eyes, it’s super hard to find a mascara that makes my eyes pop like this one does. Would definitely recommend!!

I have used for years...last time they changed the formula it didn't work the same. I was so glad they changed it back. Now it seems to have changed again and includes a potent smell (rose mixed with chemical?). Seems to be getting stronger the longer I have it. Kind of unbearable thought it was expired/bad.

Love the brush not the formula. But I literally use the brush every single day I wear mascara. I washed one of the brushes very well and use it as a lash comb. Have had the same brush (cleaned with makeup remover often) for a couple years. When it goes in the trash, I’ll buy another tube- just for the brush!

I agree full heartedly with other reviewers- very black is just too harsh/dark for those of us with very light features. I've lived in my brownish black waterproof Define A Lash for over ten years and am so distraught that I can't even seem to find it available anywhere online anymore. PLEASE bring it back.
